Yet Again, Good News, Bad News

The good news is, I am managing to get down 30 grams of protein-mostly in the form of protein drink with a little yogurt on the side. The bad news is that I am not close to 48 oz of liquid required to go off TPN ( IV feeding) I am hoping my surgeon will bend a bit. There is another problem, too.

I really only like cold beverages, mostly water. Ice cold. Before surgery, in mid-winter, I could chug 20 oz of ice water in one sitting with no problem and never feel cold. The last two mornings, I awoke thirsty, and tried to take advantage of it by sipping 10-15 oz of ice water in an hour or so, and was rewarded by my core temperature dropping like a stone.

I couldn't stop shaking, ending up on the recliner wrapped in 2 quilts, with a scarf around my head, sipping decaf tea(which I do not like) while my body shook and rattled and rolled, my heart pounded-I had to take nitrostat-and I struggled to breath. It lasted 3 hours yesterday, but only 40 minutes today. I can learn, you know. I will call my doc tomorrow, but my friend who's a nurse said I gave classic symptoms of core temperature drop. She suggests tea or bullion first thing in the morning. Ugh. But I will do it.

I am still hoping to go to PA to see my parents with out the TPN- it is such a hassle to travel with the whole breathing apparatus stuff, that to add pump, pole, TPN liquid, and all the paraphernalia that goes along with it makes it almost not worth going. Alas, My Mom is not well, and I can no longer hop on a plane and fly out to Denver to see her if she takes really ill, so I am determined to go this week!

Blessings, Margo

The steps you take forward seem to have little sidesteps that keep you from plunging headlong into a course of action.  Maybe that is a good thing.  I do hope that you get to go see your mother.  Love, Pennie

Margo.... I am right there with you on loving ice water.... but don't they say that room temp water is better for your body? You hang in there... you know I am rooting for you all the way here.

Margo,
I love celestial seasonings teas.  They have so many wonderful flavors, and they are all caffeine free.  Maybe you could try some of those.  The peach, and the cranberry/apple are my favorite.
I hope with all my heart you are able to get rid of that damn TPN soon.
Love,
Connie

Oh, I am giving positive thoughts and prayers to you being able to go on your trip with as little paraphenalia as possible.

I know it gets discouraging . . . but when we have a good day, don't we appreciate it . . .  I try to get dressed and get out of the house and remember what I felt like in the good old days . . .  my hyperthyroid is making that difficult right now  . . .  and my ailing mother is coming to stay with me for a week while my father is out of town.  Wish me luck.  LOL.  Take care,
                                                       Cyndy

Margo ~ you just keep plugging along ~ I think all things considered, you are doing great!  I go to see Dr. Bell today for my 2 month check-up...can't believe it has been that short of time, I feel like it has been forever since I had my surgery. In any event, the tea sounds good...I have also found that room temp. water goes down easier for me too. I am not sure why that is. And, I have discovered that I get cold much faster/easier too. I wonder what that has to do with?? I send good vibes for you to be well enough to travel. PA is not that far away, so I do hope that all goes well. I will keep you in my thoughts....Tracy
